Dr. Clayton (Cal) Lord grew up in nearby
Colchester, Connecticut and graduated from
UCONN with a Bachelor of Liberal Arts
Degree in Sociology and a minor in Human
Development and family Relations.  He went
on to receive his Master of Divinity Degree
from
Andover Newton Theological School in
1984 and went back to Andover Newton for
his Doctor of Ministry in 1996.

Dr. Lord was called to serve the Cross Mills
Baptist Church in Charlestown, Rhode Island
in September 1983 and served there for two
years. In 1985 he was ordained by the First
Baptist Church of Lebanon, Connecticut and
shortly afterwards he came to us.  In
October of this year he will become the
longest standing Pastor of our church
passing Rev. John Sterry (1800-1823.)

In 1998 Dr. Lord's
The Church Newsletter
Handbook  was published by Judson Press.
In 2003 his
"Weekly Pastoral Epistles"
became a regular feature in the
Norwich
Bulletin as part of the "Spirit Page" on
Saturdays. Last summer he published his
second book, a collection of sermons
entitled,
God is Rock Solid, through CSS
Publishing. Recently he started publishing his
own
blog.  Check it out and read a thought
for the day.

Dr. Lord is a sports enthusiast and that has
spilled over into his ministry at the church.
We now support a softball team, a bowling
league, an annual golf outing,  and two to
three youth basketball teams as part of our
outreach efforts.

Cal lives in Norwich and he and his wife,
Lori, have been married twenty six years and
have three lovely daughters, Rebecca, Sarah
and Rachel.

He is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees
of the
Pierce Memorial Baptist Home in
Brooklyn, Connecticut. He is an active
member, and past President, of the
Norwich
Rotary Club. He is a member of the Board of
Trustees of the
Otis Library as well as the
Maplewood Cemetery. He is a Corporator of
the
W.W. Backus Hospital. He is a past
President of the
American Baptist Churches
of Connecticut and a past Senator to the
National Minister's Council of the ABCUSA.

He is an avid fan of the
Detroit Tigers and
has a nice collection of memorabilia that he
has built over his years in Norwich.
Pastor Lord just finished his term as President of
ABCCONN this year and worked along side our
Executive Minister, Rev. Judy Allbee.

Our Pastor Is A Judson Press Author

On December 20, 1997 Judson Press released The Church Newsletter Handbook.  The book provides a how to guide
for newsletter writers and editors.  "It is set up like a cookbook for newsletter writers," emphasizes the Pastor.
Short chapters enable a variety of readers at different skill levels to access the topics in which they are most
interested.

The book came out of the Pastor's own interest in putting together a good newsletter for our church. Although it is
written with churches in mind, it is especially useful for anyone wanting to put together a newsletter for their group.
He shares his experience with others and offers numerous suggestions. There are chapters on using fonts and
graphics.  There are tips for those doing the writing and those responsible for design and layout.  There are ideas for
content and chapters that talk about including photographs and interviews.

A lot of the newsletter examples come from local churches and the photographs are of our people.  The book sells for
as low as $11.00 at Amazon.com.

The book is dedicated to  Rev. Dr. John Brooks, who got our Pastor interested in computers and showed him how
valuable an asset a newsletter could be in building interest and support for the church's ministry. "In a sense, Rev.
Brook's ministry to the wider church will continue in everyone who reads and uses this book," says Lord. More than
anything, Lord hopes the book will encourage others to take up the task of producing  newsletters that people in the
pews will read and enjoy.
