"God Sees The Heart"
March 11, 2009
I looked at the monitor and was mesmerized by what I was seeing. I
watched as my heart appeared on the screen. It looked so small to me. It
also looked very busy. It moved with a steady rhythm in and out. You could
see the tiny valve open and close with regularity. I felt detached from what
I was viewing. How could all that activity be going on inside of my body?
The beauty of an echocardiogram is that it allows a physician to check on
the health of your heart. It shows the size and shape of the heart and its
pumping capacity. If there is any damage, it shows the location and extent
of it on the tissues. This test is especially useful for assessing diseases of
the heart valves. It also allows doctors to see any abnormalities in the
pattern of blood flow. It reveals all this and gives us a picture of something
that we could never see with the naked eye.
I was having this test as part of a routine check up. Six years ago I had a
major arteriole blockage and had an angioplasty to open it up. Since then Dr.
Healy has been helping me to maintain a happy and healthy heart. The
echocardiogram is one of the tools that he uses to check out how I am
doing inside and out.
On my way home yesterday a verse of scripture came to mind. Psalm 51
says, "Create in me a pure heart, O God and renew a steadfast spirit within
me. God knows us inside and out. He knows where we are hurting and
need healing. He sees beneath the layers of guilt and shame. Nothing we do
can hide them from his sight. When David wrote these verses he was
overcome with heart ache. No one else could see it. But God knew it was
there and he came to David and offered forgiveness.
The truth is that God has that ultra sonic ability to see beneath the surface
of our lives. He sees everything and then comes to us with the ability to heal
and forgive. So what are you waiting for? All we need to do is make an
appointment to see him. That's as easy as falling on our knees. No wait. No
worry. So if you have been feeling a little heart sick over life lately, come
see the heart specialist. He specializes in diseases of the heart. He'll check
you out and give you a fresh start and new spirit.
God bless! See you in church. Cal.
